Using your eye drops correctly

Eye drops only work if used regularly and correctly, which is hard in daily life: studies show that many patients do not take their drops reliably and a large share stop treatment within the first year. Because glaucoma causes no sensation, it is easy to forget the drops – yet every missed day raises the risk. How to instil correctly:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Tilt your head back slightly.
  3. Gently pull down the lower lid.
  4. Place one drop into the pocket that forms, without touching the eye with the bottle.
  5. Close the eye and gently press the inner corner for 1–2 minutes.

6. With several drops, wait 5 minutes.

Tips: pick a fixed time, link it to a habit (brushing teeth), set a phone reminder, refill in good time. Report side effects (stinging, redness) openly – there are often alternatives. Never stop the drops on your own.
